Hey there, and welcome

I’m Marta Rivera, an illustrator based in Madrid, Spain. Since I was little, drawing has been my way of exploring and understanding the world, and it’s something I’ve continued to do throughout my life.
I studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where I developed my foundational skills and deepened my understanding of visual art. Later, I continued my education at the University of the Arts London (UAL), studying in the BA (Hons) Drawing program thanks to an Erasmus scholarship. This experience allowed me to immerse myself in the world of drawing in a diverse, international context, and helped develop my creative approach.

Returning to Madrid, I earned a Master’s in Graphic Design and Printmaking at the National Mint and Stamp Factory - Royal Mint House. This experience helped me refine my technical skills, learning engraving, and deepened my understanding of how design and illustration work together to tell powerful stories.

My work is inspired by nature, everyday moments of wonder, and stories that spark curiosity. I love creating images that feel warm and full of life, whether in picture books, editorial illustrations, or personal projects. I mainly work with traditional techniques like gouache, colored pencils, and collage, mixing them to create illustrations that are rich in texture and feeling. While traditional methods are my main approach, I also use digital tools as part of my creative process.

In 2023, I was honored with the Young Creators Prize from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, which led to a grant from the Miró Foundation. This experience gave me the chance to further develop my skills and dive deeper into the world of visual art.

I’m thrilled to share that in 2024, I published The Adventure of Lou, my first book as both author and illustrator. Filled with heart, the story follows Lou, a curious bunny, as he embarks on a journey to explore the value of friendship, nature, and caring for the world. The book is fully illustrated with traditional methods, with collage playing a central role in bringing the story to life. Publishing this book has been a dream come true, and I’m excited to continue crafting stories that spark wonder and help young readers connect with the world around them.
